Get to know writer Jennifer Lang:

1. What is your story about?

The Whistle-Blower’s Confession is about an investigative reporter named Kelley Anderson, who after the death of her aunt to cancer, sees a news report on TV that discusses how cancer, autism, obesity, diabetes are all up more and more every year. And rather than just accept it, she starts to question why. She starts to investigate and the more she uncovers, the more danger she and the people around her are in.

2. Why should people know about yourself and your story?

People should know about me and my story because it affects them and their children. I, like most Americans never heard of genetically modified foods. I think we have a naive sense that if it’s bad, the government will do something about it. Problem is, as we recently saw last month, Congress voted against transparent GMO labeling. Our elected officials vote to protect the rights of big corporations and not the people who elected them and that has to stop.

3. How long have you been writing stories?

5 years

4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?

Jason Bourne – The Bourne Identity

5. Who would you like to collaborate with on a creative project?

Gwyneth Paltrow …. Being that she recently went to Capitol Hill to push for mandatory labeling of foods made with genetically modified ingredients or GMOs, I’d love for her to be Kelley in the movie.

6. How many stories/screenplays have you written?

This is my first published book and this will be my first…(of many) …screenplays.

7. What motivated you to write this story?

I used to live in New York and one night I received a phone call advising me that my mom was very sick and being rushed to the hospital. I left New York and returned back to Arkansas. As I assumed the duties of being her caregiver, I noticed that there were times she would be sitting there with tears in her eyes and clenched fists. She was in severe pain and trying to bear it on her own. So we started documenting everything she eat and drank. As long as she eat meat and vegetables, there was no pain. Then I discovered that the pain returned, once she eat something that had GMOs in it. So, I paid utmost attention to what I purchased, until one day, I bought black pepper in a hurry…got it home, prepared dinner and here come the tears again…I became angry over what should have been the simplest thing to buy, that it was laden with gmo filler. So at this point, I wanted to try and educate people in an entertaining and thought provoking way, because people are going through serious battles that can all be conquered with knowledge and change.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

Not really, I see scenes in my head and write them down before I forget them…Then when the time is right, I pull everything together.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Singing….I have my own Independent record label http://www.JenniferLangMusic.com. So as I think about the screenplay, I think about the movie’s soundtrack.

10. What influenced you to have your story made into a video pitch?

I think that having a video pitch done is a great way of getting the story and the book in front of people to help build buzz for the movie.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

At heart, writers are creative people. So I would say, write from your heart. Write to affect and to effect, so that what pushes and motivates you can be a blessing to other people.
