What is your story about?
In a futuristic time, a mercenary, Mike Colby, is paid by his ex-wife and CEO of a galactic shipping corporation, Gemini, to deliver a treaty to militant aliens in their sector. Having a history with the aliens, Mike, takes on the job to find out how they got into this sector. When he meets with the alien general, he notices an odd device attached to their control panel that projects an image of all the space stations in that sector. When the alien general rejects the treaty (no surprise) Mike uses a series of flash and incendiary grenades to escape WITH the module. He escapes in his beat up shuttle and pursued by alien fighters. His ex-wife refuses to provide backup for him and leaves him to die. One of her female captains, Tisch, rescues Mike against her orders escalating an existing feud between the two. Making matters worse, Mike is smitten by the captain and determined to win her over. Upon their return to headquarters, Mike is drawn into the feud between them. In addition, the aliens threaten to destroy the shipping corporation if they don’t return the module. Mike hopes to maintain peace between them but Tisch believes Gemini is responsible for her father’s death and Gemini, who hoped to rekindle her relationship with Mike, is jealous over his interest in Tisch.
Why should people know this story?
It has a little bit of everything – spies, aliens, comedy, dysfunctional romance, horror, a sidekick, and a character for everyone.
This story has a lot going for it. How would you describe this story in two words?
What movie have you seen the most in your life?
Independence Day – Centropolis Pictures
How long have you been working on this story?
Over a year.
How many stories have you written?
Eleven novels (published), two short stories (published), six screenplays (none sold yet) and one TV series (13 episodes, also not sold yet).
What motivated you to write this story?
I wanted something different that people could relate to. While the plot is simple for lead character Mike Colby (exterminate the aliens before they exterminate us), his ex-wife and the girl he courts complicate everything.
Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
I love futuristic movies which exploit complicated human issues
Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
You need perseverence and the ability to objectively evaluate your story. Is it really marketable or just something you feel strongly about? Can I make others feel the passion of the story or do I hope that they’ll just like the characters? Is there a significant character arc in my characters to make this filmworthy and can it be done with a reasonable budget? These are things you need to consider before writing a story.
