‘Gong’ stands for grandfather in Chinese. My script is about the divisions and rifts between generations. Family plays an extremely crucial role in Chinese culture. The two protagonists in this script has completely different views and attitudes towards society, including language, food and even outfits. Though the protagonists in this story differ in lots of ways, blood is what ties them together eventually. Family members have to make compromise due to result of the conflicts.
I am born in Japan and raised in China. I had embraced both cultured growing up, as they are similar in many ways. When I was 15 years old, I came abroad to the US and went to high school here. I want to write scripts that resemble my culture, and express in another language. Although the language barrier might be a problem, I will still do my best to eliminate that and convey my thoughts in English.
This script is based on what I saw as a kid. Some of the values might seem absurd to a foreigner, but this is still a general case in a majority of China. I wanted to write this short script to reflect some of the problems and difficulties, and conflict of values that is prominent in many families of by country.
